Ten-Minute TV Make-up

One of the most common questions I'm asked once people find out I work in TV news is: "Do you guys do your own make-up?" The answer is yes. In fact, the majority of the local TV news people you watch do their own make-up. It varies from station to station....some stations may pay for their make-up, some stations pay for nothing....but most local TV news talent do their own make-up. TV news folks in major cities or at networks may get to enjoy the perks of having someone do their makeup...but 95% of us do our own. After 17 (woah, that's a big number) years working in TV news....I've seen the good, the bad and the UGLY of make-up. I've learned what to do, what not to do, seen fads come and go...in short, I have a lot of experience with makeup. I put together this video to share what I use, why I use it and how you can get it. I'm no professional makeup artist, although I've worked with many over the years and learned some of their tricks!!! This is just what I do to try and look pleasant and professional when you see me on your Fox Kansas News at Nine! I've also linked the products I use so you can see where you can get them and learn more about what I use. Feel free to ask questions or leave suggestions in the comments. I am ALL ABOUT learning new tricks or learning about new products!

Before we get started I have a couple disclaimers you should know that affect my decisions in what make-up I use and why.

#1: I have sensitive skin. Over my 17 years in TV I have learned not to try something because it's the cheapest option. While some options I use are more cost effective...the majority of what I used is a high-quality product that doesn't make my skin break-out Therefore some of the products I use cost a little more. I find value in them....you may not and can of course swap out a more cost effective option!

#2: TV news make-up isn't about the latest make-up trends. It's about making your face pleasant to look at, but not distract you from the words I'm saying. So you won't see any cat eyes, smoky eyes, etc... This is my tried-and-true routine that I use on a daily basis so I can provide my viewers a consistent look.

Again - I'm not a make-up professional...so if you are, or even if you have some suggestions or products you think I should try...please leave me a note in the comments. I'm all about improving, learning and growing....even when it comes to make-up! Hope you enjoy the video at the bottom of the page! The links to the products follow below.
